About Nokha Dakroub
Nokha Dakroub was elected in 2014 as a Public School Board Trustee for Wards 9 and 10 in Mississauga and served for eight years from 2014-2022. Nokha led the charge to increase support for special education, reduce busing distances, advance numerous infrastructure projects, and was a champion for equity issues for children in the school system. Nokha ushered in significant policy changes at the school board including faith-based heritage months, the first of a kind anti-Islamophobia strategy and was a fierce advocate for the review of the Peel District School Board by the Ministry of Education that brought in 27 directives to tackle systemic discrimination and specifically anti-black racism in public education.
Nokha has a long-standing commitment to supporting community and advocating for systemic change and is widely regarded as a champion for equity issues for children in the school system.
Professionally, Nokha Dakroub is a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist and Family Mediator with over 10 years of combined experience in hospitals, primary care and community settings. Nokha’s career journey has included varied experiences in different settings. Previously working as a Social Worker in ICU, Emergency Departments, Acute Care and mental health, Nokha has worked at the Credit Valley Hospital, the Mississauga Hospital and at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH). At the height of the COVID-19 crisis, Nokha was the assigned Social Worker to the Pandemic Response Unit.
Today, Nokha is the founder of Better Space Mediation and Therapy, a psychotherapy and family mediation practice in Mississauga.
